| Dear Sensei: I was reading your comments. I sometimes I wonder, what is wrong with our diocese? Why is it the way it is? Why are our ministers so resistent to change or compromise? It puzzels me so much! In fact, I've learned to grow and change in my style of sermonizing, if not I don't think I could reach people. I had to change the way I look at the Kyoten, if not, I couldn't really bring the teachings into modern day Hawai`i. Often, ministers in Hawai`i will tell me, well it has to be done the Amagi way. And I get frustrated by that, as we're conforming to a norm that exists in another land. My aunt at the Hilo church will often say, that we must do things according to the Dairen way. Kind of a weird thing to say. This way and that way though get so upsetting and frustrating for me. I often wonder what ever happened to creating one's own creative way (sorry stealing this concept from Rev. Fukushima). Oh well, I'm not sure how things will work themselves out in Hawai`i, but all I really can do is pray that things do. Thank you so much for coming and talking. Maybe I'll be able to listen to a taped version of your speech. Mahalo nui loa.
Aloha, Todd
